Being a member of ‘Gas Safe’ we are certified for different aspects of gas work, such as boilers, gas fires, cookers etc. There are many ‘modules’ each requiring their own certification, so we limit ourselves to the type of work that we wish to specialise in. Clearly it is not practical to have all the modules which are available because they are all specialist subjects and all require renewal every 5 years, and the more modules you have, the more expensive and time consuming it is to renew.
For example, plumbers based in rural areas are likely to deal with oil and calor gas boilers whereas plumbers in towns and cities will only deal with natural gas appliances, so make sure you ask your plumber which qualifications he has before calling him out.
